Thwomps are completely invincible and cannot be defeated in any way.
Thwomps appear in Super Princess Peach in World 8 Bowser's Villa where they retain their behavior from earlier games, resting on the ceilings until Peach strolls by at which point they slam down. Peach evades all the Thwomps in Bowser's Villa ( Super Princess Peach). In Super Mario 64 DS, Thwomps return retaining their behavior from before and appear in the same courses however their appearances have been updated to be more modernized meaning the non spiked ones do not appear in the game, being replaced by the normal spiked ones, but you can still go on top of them. Thwomps are completely indestructible in this game. New species of Thwomps include Whomps which appear in Whomp's Fortress under control of the Whomp King. they were very rare in this game, two appear in Whomp's Fortress and 1 appears in Tick Tock Clock. They were used mainly to get to higher places. They also take out only three wedges of life if they manage to crush you. Unlike their prior two appearances, these Thwomps can be touched without fatality. Thwomps appeared again in Super Mario 64, where they had no spikes, and would keep going up and down instead of only crashing down when Mario went under them. The name Thwimp may come from the fact that they are smaller, and hence more wimpy. Thwomps appear again in Super Mario World and are exactly the same as they were before, being able to crush Mario by dropping from the ceiling, but there was also a new variety of Thwomp called a Thwimp that could move freely while going up and down, and was much smaller than a normal Thwomp.
